He has been a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa since 1980, where he has served terms as the Department Chair and Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research interests include turbulence structure, turbulent diffusion, vortical flows, aerodynamics, biofluid dynamics, nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics and the development of experimental methods. Professor Tavoularis is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering and a recipient of the George S.
